Achievements
During 2008, the Resettlement Department at HMYOI Aylesbury undertook research into the re-offending of Trail-Blazers mentees who had been released during the previous two years. The average over the two years was a reoffending rate of 9% - compared with government figures of over 70%.
Of the young people Trail-Blazers worked with in 2010; 29 have been released and of those only four have re-offended, corresponding to 14% re-offending rate measured over a one year period. We are extremely proud of these achievement as it proves that what we do brings results!
The average cost of Trail-Blazers mentoring a young offender amounted to just under £ 4,500 per mentee per fifteen months. The cost of accommodating a single young person in custody for a year can be as much as £185,780 according to the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies.
